How can we move towards a 'fairer' immigration policy in the UK?
Immigration has been one of the most prominent and contentious issues in British and European politics in recent years. From Brexit, to the Windrush Generation, to asylum seekers crossing the Mediterranean, this has been a topic that has rarely strayed from the headlines and it is hard to find someone who does not hold strong views.
Now is a crucial time for migration policy in the UK in particular. In December 2018 the Government published its immigration white paper, outlining its thinking for a post-Brexit migration system and the forthcoming Immigration Bill. Whatever ones stance on that particular issue, stakeholders and voters are calling for the way the country manages migration - be it for work, study, or asylum - to be urgently reformed. The challenge for policy makers is to create an immigration system that is both deliverable and fair.
Agora - the open forum for foreign policy - wants you to help us address that challenge.
This project will launch at an event on Thursday 6 June in London. You can find all the details and sign up here. We hope you will join us for an evening of lively discussion and interesting ideas.
