The basic idea of Policy Kitchen is to maximize collective intelligence and simultaneously make participation possible for everyone. In order for this to happen, 5 steps take place in the process.
Step 1: Challenge
A "challenge" is a pressing foreign policy problem that needs solutions from the collective intelligence of participants.
Step 2: Ideation
Solutions are collaboratively developed at workshops (usually in different cities), as well as online. Ideas are uploaded onto the platform, where they can be discussed and improved by participants. This process is public. Any idea is welcome.
Step 3: Funnel
Policy kitchen offers the possibility to design a modular funnel to get from many rough idea drafts to a selection of brilliant ideas. This may include a refinement phase and/or a variety of selection mechanisms such as public voting, jury selection, or criteria-based idea advancement.
Step 4: Policy Recipes
With the help of expert guidance, these brilliant ideas are developed into their final form - usually in the format of a "Policy Recipes" publication. Other objectives are also possible, such as a blog series, project proposals, a idea pitch event, etc..
Step 5: Impact
These Policy Recipes get promoted to decision makers and the wider public through impact events and our communication channels.
