Women are mainly involved in the informal sectors of the economy. A Feminist Foreign Policy can only be responsive if it develops processes for the inclusion of the informal sector in trade agreements

Informal sector:
- Domestic labour
- Sex labour
- Agriculture
- Small businesses (eg. market vendors)

Problems:
- lack of available data
- the small scale nature trade and goods and services
- access to land
- access to finance
- exposure to abuse and exploitation

Recommendations:

Empowerment and inclusion of grass root and civil society organisations in an IO level to communicate informal sector concerns in reshaping the agenda.

Develop initiatives to identify and calculate the role of the informal sector in the value chain of formally traded goods and services

Normative: Longer term discussion on an IO level of redefinition of trade to include informal sectors

Who should act:
- Civil society organisations
- WTO
- EU and trade negotiators
- Banking sector
- G20
- Global society fora
- ITC (International Trade Centre)
