International pressure should be applied at every opportunity to ensure countries do not deprioritise the ratification of key FFP conventions

Issue
- Perception that FFP is something that concerns'countries further afield and that gender equality amongst our close neighbours is 'good enough'
- Once a convention is signed, the momentum and international visibility can be lost, with ratification being deprioritised.
- The pressure and urgency to act, as well as sign, is not reinforced

Recommendation
- The UK enjoys a fairly good reputation for gender equality and women's rights on the international stage, but has not yet ratified the Istanbul Convention.
- The EU should use the ongoing trade negotiations with the UK as an opportunity to ensure the IC is not overlooked by the UK's current political leaders. A clear and expediated timeline for ratification should be included as a condition for any future trade deal between the UK and the EU.
